Description: This is an ungraded 1940 New Zealand Centennial Silver Half Crown. Struck at the Royal Mint (Tower Hill) in London with a silver fineness of .50, this coin was issued to commemorate the centennial of the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi, which was signed between several Maori chiefs and a British representative of the Crown, and further asserted the Crown’s sovereignty over New Zealand. The obverse side of the coin features an uncrowned, left-facing portrait of King George VI, and the reverse side features a Maori woman standing with a radiant sun above her, and a vision of more traditional Maori architecture on her right and a modern cityscape on her left. The exact coin you see in the photos is what you will receive.
